So Sunday morning, it was raining down here in Dallas, and all weekend I had been studying for my first huge test in Paramedic school. I was at my girl's place, and the weekend was filled with sitting and studying and note taking, so I was just wearing some basketball shorts. Now, I'm like some of you guys, and I always keep my knife (Umnum) in my pocket despite what I'm wearing. But this morning, I had to take my girlfriend to work, and threw on some b-ball shorts, and dropped her off. Wanting some coffee, I was driving, when all of the sudden, a white mustang drives over a 10 ft wide grass median, spins and hits a pole,

Happening right in front of me, I stop my car, get out and see the passenger a little bloody get out, but I also notice the driver, who has one serious laceration to the head. 2 inches tall, maybe 1.5 wide above his left eyebrow. I bust out my TCCC bag that I threw down a while ago, and keep in the car, Trauma-Rig.jpg, and with another passerby, got the driver to sit down after he stepped out of the car. I got out an absorbing pad, and applied it to his forehead. Seeing a lot of blood (and not a lot of experience with how much an ab-pad can soak), I asked the guy next to me to grab an Israeli bandage out, and to open it for me, as I only had one hand free, AND NO KNIFE IN MY POCKET (Actually, I had a MOD CQD Mark 1 strapped to the rig, but I completely forgot about it).

Anyways, back to the guy who's about to become a badass.

So I ask this stranger to open up the bandage, and what does he do? Does he use his teeth? No. Does he use the pre-torn "Tear here" on the package? No. HE PULLS OUT AN ALL BLACK SPYDERCO MILITARY.

HELL YES. And it was SHARP. NICE AND SHARP. And he cut that thing like it was nothing. Hands me the bandage, and I swap it out and keep applying pressure. This kid lucked out, as he was about a 300 yards from a fire station.

I completely failed on carrying a knife, getting any vitals, getting SAMPLE and OPQRST history, but its a learning lesson.

And props to who-ever you are, Mr. I'ma carry a Spyderco Military like a badass and intervene with car accidents. Thanks for making this world a better, more knife friendly environment.

Sorry about the long-winded rant.

He was breathing and you stopped the bleeding....You did good.

Talk about being at the right place at the right time.
GJ to both of you guys.

This is what I love about this country.

The best of us rise to the occasion and do what needs done.

Thanks for helping those in need.

Now, EDC a knife and never leave it behind. It's the unknowns that truly test the man, his training and his gear.

OPQRST... you use a different one from mine. Mine's LOTSACRAP- location, onset, timing, severity, associated sx, character, remitting factors, aggravating factors and progression. :)

Good on ya, though.
