A family friend just moved to San Diego and is getting married next year and has their grandfathers dress sword that needs some attention before the big day. Is their anyone in the San Diego area who may be interested to have a look at it? I have never seen this blade but it sounds like a good one.

Try to post some detailed photo of the sword and markings. Before you do anything you should relize if this proves to be a relevant historical artifact; trying to make it shiny would destroy most of its collector value. Lets see what it is, what shape it is in, and whether anything can be/should be done to make it look better.

Hey thanks n2s, I agree with your thoughts I have been told it is an etched blued blade and his grandfather served in the Royal Navy apart from that I have no idea. I live in Australia and the blade is over there I'm just trying to put him in touch with someone who could have a look at it, as you say it needs to be evaluated before any action takes place I don't do that sort of work but have had a look at some old pieces from time to time and have found it to be an interesting to see some great works from the past
Cheers Keith
