I need an information source for restoring old fixed blade knives, ie., tightening the guard/pommel, polishing/refinishing handles and especially polishing/buffing the blades. Anyone know of any good books/videos or ?.

Atlanta Cutlery used to have supplies for them. What exactly are you planning, for materials and such?

For tightening the pommel nuts, if you have them, I just notch a big screwdriver blade and twist it good and hard. :)

I've had pretty good luck with stacked leather handles and can tell you where to get materials locally and how I've done them, if you'd like. They can be a lot of effort, but you can make it fit your hand perfectly.

If you can find a plating shop, they usually have the means to do light polishing. Probably a Scotchbrite wheel.
