My Micarta scales have become worn over time so that it is no longer all black. Is there a way to restore this back to the original appearance? Thanks.

Are you trying to clean it or are you wanting to make the scales darker?

The original micarta scales were black. Over time there is wear on the edges. I'd like to restore back to all black.

You could use paint stripper on them for a deep clean. Then a sanding to your preference. After, re-dye them with a black dye.

You may not need to dye them if they are fully permeated with black layers.

The black in the resin doesn't permeate the fibers so over time as the edges wear the fiber can show through more. You would need to hit them with black dye. Or even a black sharpie for a less permanent option.

OK, thanks very much everyone. Already hit the scales with 600-800 grit, will need to pick up some black dye.
Looks like teak oil afterwards.
