Newbe here......I just bought a couple of fixed blade knifes with leather sheaths, at an auction. They appear "vintage". One stamped "Puma Solingen", one stamped "Monarch 2141".
Mt question is, if they are collectable, do collectors prefer them as is, or cleaned up and sharpened?

I will let others better versed speak to this in detail, but my general impression is collectors prefer factory edge. Any use or sharpening reduces the value, and a abused blade or poorly done sharpening would dramatically reduce interest.

Thanx.

This all assumes they are in good original condition with the original factory edge.......leave them as is.

Here is the deal.......You know what you have now. If you mess with them in the hopes of "adding value" you could and probably will do the opposite.
Sell them with the original edge and you can't go wrong, but get some supposed "expert" to sharpen them and you could just end up with junk.

Bad sharpening has probably ruined more blades than rust.

Yes..... hence my question. I won't refinish the knife. The Puma Solingen I have taken apart. The model "584" is on the metal inside the handle, so the hunt goes on.

Clean with mineral oil and soft rag only. No sandpaper or steel wool.
You could buy a gold membership. You would get value quotes and a marketplace to sell them here.

If you took it apart it isn't going to matter what else you do.

I can't find a Model 584 in my Puma catalog, so that's probably wrong. If it's anything modern, last 30 years or so, you can figure out what they sell for easily by looking on the auction sites.

Pictures always help get better replies.
