I have a very nice and very old stag handled carving set. The metal is good on all three pieces. The stag is quite good on the steel and the fork. However, for many years my mother used the carving knife as a general purpose kitchen knife. Not every day but often enough. Horror of horrors I think she probably put it in the dishwasher
Many times no doubt.
With that said, it is not cracked. It has shrunk back and the ferrule is loose as is the guard. With what should I treat this fine old stag? Oil? Wax? Ballistol?
