Hey all, it's been a while since I restored a knife, and I had a SS Case laying around that needed a good amount of work. This past week, I've cleaned the knife, refinished and reshaped the blade, and made a new shield (my very first) from an old penny. I put on a working finish, didn't feel a need to make a mirror finish on the blade and bolsters. Here are some before and after pics alongside my closest relative, a 1940's Queen No. 11. Any comments or questions are welcome!

That shield looks great. I have a couple of knives with missing shields I thank I'll try to make some for them. You have inspired me.

I like that copper shield too. How did you make it from a penny?

First get an all copper penny, pre 74 I believe, then grind, sand, or file down Abe Lincoln's side until there is a flat surface large enough to use for a shield. I then used line man's pliers to cut it to rough shape, and a file and stone for finishing. PM me for more

Very nice! From time to time I'll see an old flea market or junk store knife missing the shield...would be a fun project!

Good job on the shield. I have been wanting to try and make a pinned shield on one of my restorations recently but have not had the guts.

Nice job on the shield - I liked the blade better in the before pics.

I like a clip point, but for this I wanted to make a sort of dropping point, a bit of belly but an edge down tip like a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe. The blade on my Leatherman Rev is sort of like that, and I wanted to emulate it, as it seems to be the best of both worlds and really useful for most of what I run into. It looks like a spear point, but it's more downward cutting (hard to see in pics). This is sort of an oddball project for me, but it is just for me if you know what I mean.

Cheers,
Connor
