Was going through some of my old things and came across the knife my grandfather gave me for summer camp around '95. Colonial shut down their factory in '98 and split into two different companies, but before then they made a lot of patterns for the boy scouts which my grandfather was heavily involved in.

This knife has a lot of sentimental value to me and I want to restore/preserve it as well as I can, but I have never worked on an old folder (I tend to carry fixed blades). I'm sure there are plenty of nooks and crannies I will have to clean gunk and rust out of and I thought I would ask you guys where I should start and what cleaning solutions I should use.

Some fine steel wool and wd40 to remove the rust, and wd40 toothpicks and q tips ...ect to clean 9ut the inside then flush and dry out with compressed air.

The condition looks pretty good overall, and theres mostly just patina without much rust.
I doubt it'll take more than an hour and some elbow grease.
