I picked up this axe for 5 bucks at the swap meet. I didnt notice it was a Craftsman until I really looked close and cleaned off some of the rust. It was my first restoration. Im not sure how old the axe is.

That's a sweet looking old Craftsman there!
That stamping looks like it might be rather old.
Nice score ;)

Great restoration. I love the old handle.

I don't know the time line for Craftsman stamps but I know that the oval stamps are older than the square stamps. Also the newer Craftsmans have flat cheeks and not the nice high centerline that your axe has. It's a sweet axe. Looks like about a 3 or 3-1/2 pounder on a 30" (?) haft?

I have it's little brother.

the haft is 24"... I already forgot the weight, I got it a couple of months ago. I couldnt get it to register on an electronic bath scale.

Sweet find, great job restoring her. If the head measures 6"+ and the bit 3.5" to 4" I'll bet her head weighs 2.25 lbs.
Classic Boy's axe size.

Double Ott
