Recommendation? Restoring cheap production knives for a beginner?

Hopefully this fits in this section but I took a couple of knives apart for the first time yesterday and have the detent working much better now, and since I'm more interested in design than steel quality I'm wondering if there's a place for buying not so high end used knives on the cheap and cleaning them up? If it's not high end steel I imagine it wouldn't be hard to sharpen either. (well maybe not D2) Maybe occasionally the connoisseurs here will even be getting rid of the lower end stuff in their collection? I'm just interested in variety more than anything and it's satisfying to get it working again.

Also try Ebay, searching under " Knife Lot " or close wording. Sometimes it's surprising what people get rid of in bulk.

Yeah I was going to recommend the TSA confiscated items that they sell on ebay. It might be a little frustrating getting what you want in a lot, and they're not as inexpensive as they used to be, but that might be a possible route for ya.
