Restoring leather

I have several leather sheaths (and gun holsters) that once held very tightly/securely, even unsnapped, but after a few years of use they have loosened--several knife sheaths will drop the knife if simply tipped upside-down. Is there a way to safely shrink/restore the leather so it will grip like it used to?
