Retail Prices

What's the deal with Knifecenter.com and their pricing? They are competitive, but I've noticed that on some of the Chris Reeve knives, they seem to be 'jacking up' the 'retail' price, then claiming you're saving more than you are.

For example, a Mountaineer II has a retail price of $230. That's what I paid direct from CRK. But Knifecenter has it listed as "Retail price of $288, Our Price is $230, you save $58!"

Same with the Aviator, their price is $204.95, but they list the retail as $250, "You save $45.05".

I'm just curious if there is another "retail price" out there that I don't know of. :) I've ordered many times from Knifecenter.com, never had a problem, btw...

the Knifecenter must be getting their "retail" prices from from out of their ***.

Their mis-labelling of prices is consistent and IMO, borders on mis-representation. Since we don't have access to their inside info, it is hard to say.

OTOH, their employees are pretty inconsistent some are good, some are very bad. Perhaps the less skilled ones are entering the "retail" numbers???

I have to disagree, maybe for the knives you mentioned it is true but some of the knives i looked has the retail price lower then the retail price on the manufacturers own website. and although knifecenter doesn't have the lowest prices their prices are still pretty competitive and they carry stuff that other guys don't have

My post isn't aimed specifically at Knifecenter.com. . .there are quite a few on-line dealers out there that do the same thing.

It doesn't matter what the actual retail price is.

If I tell you that the retail price is $500. . .but I'm selling it to you for $474.99. . .

I've passed a $24.01 savings on to you.

Honestly, I don't know what this type of business practice is called (probably not very smart). Unfortunately it's not misrepresentation. . .simply because they haven't misrepresented anything.

On the other hand. . .

If you know what the actual retail price is (i.e., $474.99). And a seller offers the product to you at $500. . . And you purchase it at the sellers price ($500). . .

I call that priceless. . .or is that stupid ?

Bottom Line: A educated consumer is a smarter consumer ! :p

Oh. . . . .and shop around !

I have also seen this practice instituted as well. IMO it seems that they are preying on the uninformed purchaser.

If you know what the actual retail price is (i.e., $474.99). And a seller offers the product to you at $500. . . And you purchase it at the sellers price ($500). . .

What I am angry with is sellers who know the products ARP is $474.99 and then offers it for $500 and then says that it is on sale or discounted to $474.99. That seems to be a little fishy. They are leading you to believe that the ARP is $500 and that they are giving you an excellent discount on the product. Complete BS.

fcondron,

Your example pretty much summed up my response. ;)
