Retail Store Exclusives - Collector Value?

I am looking to get my first traditional pocket/folding knife and I figured the peanut would be a good place to start! While shopping I see on a big outdoor retailer has an "exclusive" peanut. Actually they have a couple different peanuts in different colors which all have their logo on them. My question is; does having the stores logo on the knife hurt the collector value? Add to it? Doesn't matter? I plan on using the knife so I am not that worried about it but still curious.

Thank you.

Unless you're getting a damascus peanut, you're not going to get back the money you put into it when you sell it. If you don't like it, one of the faithful will most likely trade (or if you get the gold membership buy) it from you. Depends on what the logo is on the blade. Most people here are going to use it.

I think you'll like it though.

I wasnt sure if I was allowed to post the name of the retailer, but they started out as a small tackle shop and are now one of the biggest outdoors stores in the USA (very popular for BASS lures).

I plan on using it and knowing that its still a made in America Case knife would mean a lot to me as my grandpa was a huge Case collector.

I know which model you are talking about. Recently a family member gave me one, and although I apreciate the gift, it still sits in it's box brand new. I personally don't like the look of the knife, and I have been carrying the same knife since July, and I don't plan to switch anytime soon. As far as collector value is concerened, I doubt it will be worth anything in the long haul. In my opinion, if you like the knife, buy it and use the heck out of it, because it most likely won't be worth anymore than any other regular Case Peanut.

Thanks for the comments guys. I actually like the knife a lot and plan in carrying it.

Value of "branded" items seems to be dependant upon how many of the item were made available. Someones special factory order that only had 100 pieces made will be more valuable later than a company's branded knife where multiple thousands likely were made. Granted, I have no idea how many knives this store had made. Also, you have to consider the value of the brand, or whatever the special feature of the knife is and how or why it would appeal to one person over another. I can see users snapping up these BPS versions if there is a price break over the "Case" branded knife. Those that know they are made by case will say "good enough."

Sort of like guns. If you're a purist, and fancy them, only Winchester will do. If you just want a shooter you don't care if it's a Cooey or Sears or Western Field.

It is made by case just like the other peanuts. The difference is the color of the bone and the BPS logo. I think that's all. Still comes in the case box with the full case warranty.

Above all that its in my pocket and grandpa would be proud!

Checked these out at lunch today. They look good but they are only in stainless. I would have bought one in CV.

I think it's rare to find a production knife that will actually increase in value...at least to such an extent where it would mean much. Case/bose collabs and a few others are the only ones that come to mind. Generally, I think many knife manufacturers are just like other businesses....they do what they need to do to make money. This includes hyped up marketing of "limited" editions, which, although limited, have no real monetary collector value. That being said....I love case peanuts and if you find one you love, get it. Maybe a bit off topic....but oh well....

Not off topic at all!

And I would love one in cv but I don't get a discount on those.
