I'm lookin for a dealer or retailer, are they the same? anyway lookin for one that does checks over the phone. you know where you give them your routing number and they debit your account. I don't have a credit card nor do I want one. I just want a place where I can do this and have an easy way to get my stuff. any suggestions? thanks a bunch. dtsoll

I think Busse does that...hehe

BTW, why not get a Debit card? It's just like a credit card, but it takes money right out of your account.

Check cards are awesome. I haven't gone inside to pay for gasoline for six months or more. ;) Plus, you can't spend money you don't have.

There are a surprising number of Americans who prefer not to have credit cards. I have a friend who lives entirely on cash. It isn't easy and I admire his dedication. I'm not saying this is dtsoll's reason but my friend believes that the Government can and does track each and every credit card transaction and uses that information to build profiles of people.

I live completely on concrete money and never rely on credit, but I do use electronic means to transfer money. I don't have a problem with that.

BTW, I doubt the government pays that much attention to everyone in the country. I would think the credit processing companies, banks, and retailers compile more purchase records than the government.

im2smrt4u,
Are you referring to paypal? I am considering this. exactly how does it work? I'm not sure if my bank (small time Nebraska) is up for this. If I make a purchase at 2:00 am will my bank account be debited at 2:00am? in other words instantaneous? just curious. thanks dtsoll

PayPal and debit are two taotally different things. With debit/ATM, when you use your card the money is immediately deducted from your available balance. It may take a little for the money to actually clear, but it is put on hold immediately. If you don't have the money available, the transaction will be denied.

With PayPal, it is like writing a check. You promise to pay someone a certain amount and your bank is asked to transfer the money. If you don't have the money, it is just like bouncing a check. Paypal is a little strange. The "check" gets there immediately, but they have to wait for it to clear.

BTW, you don't need your bank's permission to use PayPal. All you need to do is have a checking account and get the numbers off the bottom of your checkbook.

dtsoll: you should realize that paypal is not a bank (a financial institution), and have screwed too many poeple's account for me to put any trust in them. In another forum, a $10k account (he was a seller) was suspended, locking the person from it. They play the judge, jury and executioner, can and will lock your money in if they choose to. They're technically not bounded by the same rules that bank or financial institutions have.
I much rather do it through credit card (if you pay reasonable care so that people can't fraud the card company, your liability would be much less) than to pay anything by paypal.

If you are adverse to doing Paypal, then another option would be a Postal Money Order. They cost 90¢ to get one, from the post office of course, and since you need the cash to buy one, they're as good as cash to 99.8% of the people out there.

Postal Money Orders are certified funds, so they are as good as cash.

BTW, calyth is right. There have been people who have been screwed over by PayPal. Of course, it is your choice to use PayPal or not.

Paypal is so screwy that I refuse to ever use them, even if they weren't anti-gun.

Check by phone is a very neat concept, however it's also a lot more work than most other methods. As a retailer, we'd prefer certified checks or money orders for parties who prefer not to use credit cards. It's the easiest method all around for that situation.

Thanks guys,
I believe for the time being, I will be using Postal money orders. Seems like the best thing going. After I purchase the M.O. I can also drop the thing in the mail. Two birds with one blade er, I mean stone. thanks for all the posts. Dtsoll
ps I am not at all afraid of the government or anyone else knowing too much about me, just kind of an agreement between my wife and I not to have or use credit cards. could get me alot of knives though:D :D :D
