Will be in the Detroit-ish area (Detroit, Ferndale, Royal Oak, etc ...)for a day or two in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone feels like recommending a "good" retailer or two ("good" meaning "good & cheap" or "good selection" or both).

Addresses would be appreciated muchly.

Danke shoen!

Will, just moved here to Mich myself and haven't yet found any good "offline" sources. Thought I'd bring this topic back to the top for you to see if anyone else can help.

I've lived in the Detroit area all my life and I still haven't found a good knife retailer...I don't think there is one. Even the gun shops are pricey with a few exceptions. Overhead is high as property values skyrocket. See the top link on this page that reads "store"? Go there.
As Kramer said, "Retail is for suckers." I think the Gun shop by me in had a Benchmade AFCK for $150, a bit over priced.

Thanks for the help anyway, racegunner.

I don't know about Detroit but about 80 miles down the road in Lansing there's is a shop called "The Kinife Trader". Good selection, prices* and friendly staff.
Address:
3022 E. Michigan Ave
PH. No. 517 336 7010
Hours, 11am-6pm Closed Wed. & Sun.

* Some of the Michigan made Marble Knifes are priced lower than on the net.

A good friend of mine just moved to Kalamazoo, and cannot find a place to buy or service his collection. Does anyone know a store in that area I could recommend to him?--OKG
