My newest Snody...

Keith, you obviously love the work of Mike Snody. You are not alone. I have always really liked almost everything he makes.

Very nice knife, by the way.

Oh Man Keith, those Snody folders are awesome. Just how thick is that locking liner?

Hey Artsig1,

I don't think Keith will mind if I answer your question, being that I am a fellow "Snody-Head" myself.

The liners are .083" which is pretty darn thick! Snody's locks are some of the beefiest locks I know of.

Take care.

No bolsters, the most boring scale material you can find, a completely unexciting shape, a traditional spear-point blade, no character, no personality, a locking mechanism used by every maker and his mother (not to mention that it looks somewhat inaccessible and difficult to disengage), a few black screws and an oversized Sebenza style thumbstud.

Sounds pretty lame on paper.

Something tells me this knife needs to be held and used to be appreciated.

Don't get me wrong - from everything I've seen and heard I have no reason to think that this knife is anything but the awesome piece of cutlery we'd all expect from Mike Snody.

I'm just trying to figure out what differentiates it from other knives. What makes it special?

Keith-
Yeah, I do, Mike makes a superb knife....am up to 6 now and still wanting more :D

artsig-
I think my buddy Roger helped ya out and yes, they are awesome.

:p

Wulf-
well....what can I say....unless you've handled one of Mikes knives....used it to actually *cut* something you probably would not understand. This wasnt made to lie in someones glass case and be admired...it was made to cut and it is damn good at that. I personally think its a thing of beauty, I love green canvas micarta...obviously you do not but thats ok - different ppl appreciate different qualities. I cant imagine how you could claim this knife has no character...it may not have character you appreciate, but it surely does have character. You may find it bland to your eyes, but trust me if you were cutting with it you'd be all smiles and wonder what you were thinking before....

Is the lock difficult to disengage? nope. easier than quite a few other customs I have had and much stouter.

I'll second everything Keith said.

Wulf my dear man, you really need to cut something with one, and this point can't be stressed enough.

It's hard to tell with only a picture, but this knife is ground super thin. I mean verging on a straight razor thin, and the grinds are perfect.

It may look boring to you, but once you hold one in your hand, its very natural and begs to be used. The micarta has actually been contoured and it feels so nice.

Well, I'm starting to drool again, so I better shut up and go play with mine!:D

Someday I will have a Snody folder too. I will take pics to share with eveybody! 7? knife hog!

Nosamk, Wire edge,

That's pretty much what I was hoping you'd say.

Mike Snody isn't trying to fool anyone with gimmicks or doodads or flashy extras.

Yes, I had wondered whether or not the lock was user-friendly. I guess it is. :)

The fact of the matter is that I've found myself thinking about buying one myself some day. I have the distinct feeling that if I do, I'll be quite pleased with what I get. :)

I gotta defend my buddy Wulf here a little. I love the blade on that folder, but I would prefer a little more shape to the handle too.

I don't think it looks plain at all. There is something to be said for the beauty of a simple, straightforward design though. If you break it down to brass tacks, one could say that every knife basically looks the same (Just ask a non-knifer!) It's the subtle things that count.

Wulf-
good luck in finding one if you do decide to get one. :D

couple more pics...
