Retention strap with button

I'm looking at modifying my sheath that an RD7 rides in. It has a velcro strap as the retention and I want to replace it with a button retention strap or maybe two of them. Anyone know where to get a leather or nylon button strap?

hardware stores, leather/handicrafting stores, specialized button/ haberdashery stores, or perhaps some cobblers could provide the customised service.
you want to look for nylon webbing.
they normally come in rolls but most are sold by length.. or you could scrap the material from a discarded bag sling or straps. same thing with leather and you might also require some leather dye...
as for buttons, be prepared to invest
in the required "snap button fastener kit"
be certain that the buttons aren't steel
(testing with a magnet would be handy)
but brass.
that is not unless you require using
the bright silver chromed ones ,
which can and will develop rust
under the right conditions ;-)

I use a braided nylon cord to secure my belt knives -- either a loop through a couple holes in the belt loop (to slip over the butt of the knife) or tied with a square knot around the grip, lower down. A leather thong also works. Simple, cheap, no sheath mods necessary.

What I did in a similar situation: (1) buy leather (6oz or so should work), (2) snap fasteners + riveting tool as shown in post #2, and (3) a 1/8th hole punch. You can find all easily on ebay or amazon, not expensive. The leather you can cut into a stripe with a good knife.

Roland.
