Hated to retire my NS, DM blade, elk handled 110 but time had come I feared. It was my dream knife of sorts. Filed work by Muskrat man and all.

However, I got to the point that my fear of losing it was a bit too much stress for me. Had to loan it out several times last week since others didn't have a knife on them (where do those people come from?!?!?! And in the Army no less!!).

I lost a SAK and Leatherman that I had for about 20yrs when I was in Afghanistan. The one I retired tonight was my main EDC on my tour there. Want to be able to give it to my Boys someday rather than have someone mess it up or I loose it in the woods. So, to the safe it goes except maybe for the occasional BBQ.

Bummed that I have to put it away but not nearly as bummed as I would be if I lost it!

Time to give the new EcoLite 110 a try. Was going to take out an old model BuckLite since it has the lanyard hole which I really like. However, want to carry something that others can find/buy if they like it. Need to be a Buck promotions guy when you can:D

Sorry to hear this about your NS/ DM blade/ elk handled 110... You need a back up one... ;)

yes it is sad to retire a fav
but that is better then having a clod loosen it for you..
or it jest dont show back up...

Thanks for your service ohen:thumbup: I don't blame you for giving that knife some R&R.:)I'm now carrying a standard 110 for my work knife for the same reasons. It's still a great knife and if I should lose it,I'll just get another one.

Ohen, You did the right thing . Save it for your boys . I carry a 110 Bucklite Workman because of the same thinking, it has a lanyard hole plus it's blade is 425M . A very light and easy on the pocket knife and edge retention is good . Enjoy your new knife . DM

Its better for an old Buck soldier to retire than to fade away.............. into someone elses pocket:)

I'm sure it has earned the rest.

If I have a fine and coveted knife, I'd retire it if I didn't have backup copy. This is why I try to collect in threes when I can: 1) The user. 2) The backup, which is a looker and may be pressed into service if the user is lost or damaged. 3) The show pony, a looker only.

In other words, I don't blame you a bit.

In your case you now have a personal history value in the knife which cannot be replaced.
