I am looking for a compact retractable lanyard to hold my Spyderco salt knife.

This will be used mostly for recreational things like spear fishing, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, surfing, and general water shenanigans:D. It will be in warm water 60 deg. F and up.

I would like this to be small since it will be attached in my board short pockets. It will only rarely be used on a dive vest, but I do plan to use it for that too (been certified for a while).

I want a reasonable amount of "pull" and a high quality/ tough build.

Also, it is very important that it can function while being in contact with sand. Lots of sand.

I have never used one before, but it is about time I get one.

Thanks for the advice.:)

I've been planning to buy a couple but I'm sorry to say I haven't researched them yet. However, I noticed there are some at www.leisurepro.com, and a few of them have consumer reviews attached. [I put "retractors" into their search engine.]

Thanks DWK2 -I might just have to go to a dive shop and check em out

Bump- still looking for people who have tried them. Curious how they work in sandy environments...

Thanks

check your local electrical supply house or Grainger's - ask about their stainless retractable tool/key reels - much like a badge reel, only steel case and stainless cable.
