This site is starting to become one of my favorites. Thanks to everyone for the info provided so far with all my stupid questions! :) I'm just starting out collecting knives so I have more questions than input.

Anyhoo, I was looking for a fixed blade with an attached/ retractable sheath/ blade cover. Sorta like the Tekna micro:

Are these legal or are they considered switchblades now?

Are there any other "retractable sheath fixed blade knives" out there that are manual with no spring action?

Thanks!

Not sure if this is the same thing you are talking about, but Bear Cutlery was doing a retractable sheath type knife. I believe it was a Collins design.

Off the top of my head I can think of 2 design's close to that.

1) Those cheap paratrooper knives.

2) A knife called the "black magic", it look's like switchblade.

Others,

3) S & W/Taylor "Power Glide", this one is like the paratrooper knife described above.

4) BenchMark S.0.S., these had a metal swing sheath that pivoted to become part of the handle.

5) Rip Chord knives.

HTH:D:).

Hi Xacto,

I'm not sure if I understand correctly...your pic looks like an "out the front" (OTF) auto (at least it does on my screen)...if that's what you are looking for then Microtech makes many models (Ultratech, Nemesis, Combat Talon etc.)

If you truly want a fixed blade then, in addition to those mentioned above, you might want to check out the new Masters of Defense/Allen Elishewitz collaboration which is a dual length fixed blade (since the blade is partially exposed, it is not technically a gravity knife...see this month's Knives Illustrated).

Or, if you want something "exotic", check out the Laci Szabo Saca Tripas...see www.szaboinc.com for an explanation
