My curly maple Northstar came today.:D It is a feast for the eyes and just the right size for most outdoor knife tasks - not too big or too small. It fits well in my medium sized hand. The edge is pretty sharp, but there is room for a little improvement. The sheath is nice too - BRK&T has paid attention to complaints about sheaths, it seems. The surprising thing is how light it is. Do they remove stock under the handle scales?

I hope to take it into the woods this weekend sometime and enjoy its perfect blend of form and function.

Great snag bro...I am in the process of getting my second barkie...I cant decide which one though!!! :)

Have a good one!

You can find both tapered tang and stock removal handles in the Bark River Northstars. The first run was tapered. Mike found it to be troublesome and not worth the return compared to hollowing out the handle frame. The end result is the same grip shape and weight.

The tapered tang also made the lanyard loop at the back of the handle very thin.

I think the current version has a skeletonized tang. Still very strong - at least as strong as the tapered tang!

oh man, I just typed that same thing, Grampa....I must have typed it in another thread....I'll look silly somewhere! (Won't be the first time!)

Nope, the tang on mine isn't tapered, so the handle portion must be skeletonized. I sharpened it strop-style a little on some 1500 and 2000 grit mounted on a foam pad last night and now if I have a dream about cutting myself, I have to wake up and get a Band-aid!;)

Is it wrong that I'm thinking of a third Barkie? The Lil Nessy and Canadian Special still look good to me . . .

It would only be wrong if you were thinking about your thirtieth Barkie.....no, that would be sick. ((( :D )))

The Aurora is a scandi grind swedish 12c27 stainless version of the NS. It rocks!!

Not quite - the Aurora is a straight in-line bushcraft knife than the Northstar in high carbon A2 with a full-height convex grind, and the Nebula is a Scandi grind version of the Aurora in stainless 12C27 with a half-height convex grind.

But yeah, they both rock!

IMHO, you'd need to get a true custom made knife from a master craftsman to beat the Bark River Northstar. I love mine.:D

Ben!!
IMHO, the Bark River knives ARE true custom-made knives from a master craftsman!!!! (He just makes alot of them at once) ((( :D )))

I'm with stretch...they are nicer than some of the customs I have handled--and affordable too!

I recently received my Limited Edition Black and Gold Northstar along with a matching LE PSK, both of them are of the utmost quality and extremely good looking knives.

I have the Bark Disease too and the only cure is locking yourself in a dark room or like me, finding that your finances have taken a beating:D

Mikro Slither
2 Nebulas, excellent outdoor knife but not heavy
Classic Lite Hunter
Woodland - first rate small knife with heft:thumbup:
Colonial Patch
Blackwater Boot Knife - knife jewellry:D

Pity they don't do a folder yet, and would like to see the Golok re-run too
Still rather lukewarm about those sheathes though, just look awkward and are not easy to extract the knife from, this could be dangerous.
