I am so excited about this...I had to share...plus I have some questions.
My first knife was a peanut back in the late 70's. I lost it a long time ago but have always had a fondness for peanuts. I had a few more stretching into the 80's but thought I had lost all those too. Well as it turns out I somehow managed to hang on to one all these years it was stuck away in some old tools and I just found it today. I can't tell you how excited I was to find one of my old knives from so long ago.
I did some homework and I'm pretty sure this is a ten dot from 1980...in smooth red bone? Before I looked up the year I first noticed there was a small notch right where the pen blade knick is...and I definitely don't see that on any of my newer peanuts.
This will get a bit of cleanup and then see how it looks.
It is quite snappy and doesn't look like much in the way of rust or anything.
My questions:
1. For how long did they have that notch for the pen knife knick in the peanut?
2. The pen blade doesn't sit all the way down when closed (see photo)...the tip is a little bit high and exposed. Any way to fix that without taking the knife apart?
3. I am guessing this is a SS peanut? I would think there would be more aging if CV.

I can only comment on the blade steel and I'm not even sure if this pertains to your knife because I don't know exactly when Case started doing this:

At some point in time, Case began identifying the blade steel by the shape of the letter "S" in the word CASE on the tang stamp. The lightning shaped "S" signifies stainless steel and the regular "S" signifies CV steel. There used to be a paragraph about this on the Case College page but Case seems to have done away the Case College so I can't link it.

Anyway, here's a photographic example of what I'm describing. Both knives are from the 2000-2009 era. In the top pic the knife on the left has stainless steel blades and the knife on the right has a CV blade. Note the different shaped "S" in the word CASE.

IF Case was doing this when your knife was made then the "S" on your knife signifies stainless steel.

Congratulations on finding your knife! If I’m remembering correctly they only made those 2 or 3 years. It is a 1980 model. I think it’s CV. Look where it says 6220. Does it say SS there? If not it is CV. Look down inside the liner and make sure there’s no gunk keeping that small blade from closing all the way. Blow it out with air. Oil the joints and see what happens. Nice little peanut.

Glad you found your knifem. It's always a nice surprise when that happens. :D

Didn't Case first use the 10 dot system from 1970 to 1979?
My 9 dot 11031SH is from 1971.
It is my understanding that Case discontinued the 11031SH in 1974, so it cannot be from the 1980's.

Thank you for clearing that up. I will see what happens after I clean the knife up...hoping it sits better.

Yes sir you are welcome. If that doesn’t fix the little blade I know another thing or two you could try. I would try that first. Enjoy that neat little peanut.
