So all these threads about BK-2's lately got me playing around with my BK-2, actually my first Becker ever.
I actually made this sheath back in January or February of 2012 but never really completed the straps for it. I have just been using some that I made for one of my KA-BAR fighting knife sheaths. They fit well enough to use I just never got around to making new ones for this guy.
Had an idea for a way to carry a small altoids tin without having a pouch and decide to try it out on this sheath. Also testing out some new ways to finish the leather and get a more satin look rather than a glossy one.
The straps and leather that attach to the sheath are made from one piece of leather so it was kinda tricky figuring it all out. The back of the Small tin actually sits against the sheath and the edges fit into a cutout I made. It is then held in place by shock cord.
The tin has been modded cause I can't stand the color. I just heated it with a torch till all the paint burnt off, cleaned it real good with water, then oiled and waxed it.
I made a quick fire steel loop. Need to put a handle on the ferro rod but at least you can get an idea of how it will look.
I think it came out pretty cool and I haven't seen anyone else use a method like this to carry an altoids tin before.
Note: "Rapid Release strap licensed from Hedgehog Leatherworks, US Patent #7587827"
In the tin I think I'm just gonna carry some tinder, I already cut an allen key to fit inside, and maybe a couple other small items. I can't wait to get out and test it. I wore it around for a while yesterday and after a few minutes, You really get used to the weight of the BK-2 and don't even know its there. I think the scout style for a knife this heavy is really a plus since it balances the weight evenly as opposed to having it all on one side of your body.
I am also excited to use the BK-2 again. I really haven't used it since I got my BK-12 and BK10 and the awesome BK-16, so I think it will be great to revisit this old friend and get a new perspective on it.
Hope y'all like it and I'd love to know what you guys think about the Altoids tin attachment method. To me it's kinda minimalistic yet sophisticated! Haha
Update with new Hardware:
