Hello all, as you can see im a newbie here. But I recieved a Hibben IV from a friend but it needs a bit of TLC to get it respectable.
It has a nice leather sheath and paracord wrapped grip. Problem is that the edge has been whored out for a while and a couple
good scratches from someones sharpening attempt (not me) and a few surface rust spots.

Plans:
1 - Remove paracord
2 - Bead or sand blast entire blade
3 - Carefully remove deep scratches and square up edges that were poorly originally ground.
4 - Put a decent bevel on it
5 - Duracoat
6 - Put a proper edge on it
7 - Reparacord the grip and enjoy!

Ive never had a project quite like this so im sure itl be fun and ill learn a lot. I just wanted to run it by a few knife folk before I get to work.
Im a machinist so im quite familiar with metal removal of many types but not a lot of experience with blades. Thanks.

Welcome to blade forums! :)
So far your plans look good, although I would consider putting a good patina on it rather than dura-coating it.

Just be sure not to heat the blade while grinding. Use a bucket of water to dip it in every couple of passes if you use powered equipment. ;)
