For years my EDC Knife was a Cold Steel Voyager Tanto point Combo edge.
I liked the knife as it was strong lightweight and took a good edge.
I did decide that I did not like the serrated edge and if I ever bought another I would only get a plain edge.
Well recently I lost the knife and my first instinct was to by another just like it but with a plain edge but after reading about some of the other makes here I decided that this was a good opportunity to try them. So here are the ones I got and my thoughts and choice for replacement.
SOG Twitch II: This knife was the perfect size for my EDC little heavier than the CS but a little smaller. The knife was VERY sharp out of the box and takes and holds an edge well. It is an assisted opener and is very sweet. Their is some minor lateral play in the blade but it is not noticeable in use. I read in another review about stress cracks in the locking bar where it bends to make a gap for the kick to pass through, mine has these also but I don't feel it compromises the strength of the knife. The only other negative is there are a lot of gaps for dirt and other contaminits to get into.
Benchmade Mini-Pika:first let me say that my definition of mini and Benchmades differ a lot (this goes for the Griptillion also) I consider it a medium sized folder it was very well made and came with a good edge but not as good at the Twitch II. it locked up real solid with no play and felt good in the hand. This one the more I played with it the more I liked it but in the end it was to big for an EDC knife for me your needs may differ.
Benchmade Mini-Griptillion:Again this was not a mini sized knife but it felt good in the hand with solid lockup and no play in the Blade. The Axis lock is strong and solid and the handle fills the hand real well. I came with a good edge and would probably be my choice for an outdoor folder. But again it is to big to be my EDC choice.
CRKT B.U.L.L.: This knife had the smoothest opening of all of them if feels like glass. This knife is also very intimidating. While in the same general size as the Mini-Pika and Mini-Griiptillion it feels and seems larger. I has a solid lockup but the recurved blade is a pain to sharpen. This is the knife I would carry for Self Defense out of the ones chosen.
I work in an office setting and just need a lite utility blade to cut open boxes and lite rope and string with a little lite prying and scraping and the Twitch II is the knife that best suited my needs your mileage may vary.I did not review the clips because I don't use them I have yet to find one that is not a pain in the a$$ to clip on I just rather drop it in my pocket.
Hope you found this helpful and I will be glad to answer your questions.
