I saw in the sales thread the ricasso area described as a shelf so I propose the "Steingass Shelf". I sure haven't seen that before, it's awesome!

the plunge/ricasso area is super interesting. I think I saw something similar to that in some Loveless knife making book, the name 'Barney' comes to mind but I'm not 100% on that. In any event, this is a wonderful piece

Thanks Lorien - you are correct - I got the idea from Barney's flat ground knife but my cutting edge is a bit further forward to keep from damaging the ricasso edge when you sharpen the knife. Another variation I make is double hollow ground for daggers but here the secondary edge is farther back, truer to Barney's flat ground version. In either event, they are a PITA to execute but well worth the effort IMHO. :)
