I'm getting a knife made (won't be ready 'til next year) with a black water buffalo or a dark giraffe bone handle. I'll be getting some 'reverse' scrimshaw done on the handle and if anyone has a knife with 'reverse' scrimshaw... could you please post a picture. I found this picture on the 'net and would enjoy seeing other examples. Thank you.

i have never seen that before, wonder how the white pigment holdsup? Beautiful work on those links. definitely gonna have to read up on this, The finished pieces have a similar look as "Scratchboard" i have done those before, the board is coated in a black clay-type material and you scratch your piece into it revealing the white layer underneath, pretty cool.

Buffalo horn is the only material that I know of that doesn't require ink. The lines will be naturally white when you scratch it. White is still used sometimes just to make it stand out more.

Thanks Cougar for the move and thanks for the pictures and links guys! I've been in contact with the scrimshander that will do the work. I'm sure it will be of a wolf or wolves but I haven't settled on a design just yet. Here's a pix I'm liking but I'm still not sure... hope it can be rendered into 'reverse' scrimshaw. Keep the examples of 'reverse' scrimshaw coming.

You already have been given the link I was going to suggest: Gaetan Beauchamp. Some of the finest reverse scrim you will ever see, and a wonderful gentleman to work with.

Thanks for your positive comments.
Even if it is not a reverse scrimshaw I would like to show you all this lion scrimBest regards/ Ulf
