Reversing batteries for transit.

When transporting flashlights etc I generally reverse one of the batteries so that they don't discharge if the device is accidentally switched on. I've done this since I had a bad experience on a hiking trip as a teenager and Dad suggested the trick. Less risk of losing them than taking them out and packing separately.

This works fine with an even number of batteries but I recently bought a 3 battery headlight.

Do other people reverse a battery and, and do you have any suggestions or tricks to avoid accidental discharge of batteries?

I just loosen the tailcap on my SF's. But ive heard about the trick before from several different people who do it.

I have reversed batteries in radios, flashlights, etc. for years. My father-in-law was an electrician and he recommended it.

do this all the time in my camera

damn thing chews through batteries if left off and the batteries in the right position

How old is your camera? How cheap? That used to be a big problem and still is with cameras that use cheap memory. Toy digital cameras in the $20 range are so bad they'll kill a battery in a couple of days without even taking a picture.
