bagman,
Man after my own heart....LOL. I posted this question a while back: I went looking for it, but since I have CRS (can't remember sh$t), I wasn't able to locate it
.
It is going to be very tricky to drill blind into the opposite side of the pivot area, and tap into without going too deep and damaging the blade (blade steel is prety tough as opposed to micarta). If you do go thru the material and into the blade...all that powdered micarta/steel is going to have to get blown out, or cleaned out later on.
I have all the tools (I have access to CNC and manual Bridgeports) and skills I need to do this, BUT I have been really putting if off
. Yes, I am a chicken ...worse case I have a Calypso jr. that is going to LOOK ugly - I already dropped it several times and it has gotten kicked accross a concrete floor. I have gotten around this issue by learning to draw the knife and manipulate it a little awkward fashion to use the knife out of my left hip pocket.
Another solution I have was to drill/tap the knife for TIP UP carry - much easier to do, BUT you are now going to tap into the steel spacer holding the two scales together
. Which you now have a VERY high probablity of snapping off the tap accidentally. The screws are NOT 2-56, I think they are 3-56.
Sorry for RAMBLING....LOL. Bottom line is if it ain't broke DON'T fix it
. I will post if I have success doing this (near future). Don't you just love how crisp the blade snaps shut
. The Jr. is my favorite 3" knife.
