Review: Axis lock VS Compression lock

Nice review - thanks.

I have both an Ares and Gunting and therefore replied to your review regarding accidental disengagement and the keeping closed of the blade.

I close it singlehanded WITHOUT ever taking my fingers off the knife from user position..
I'd NEVER use my index finger to close the blade..it ( the blade) might catch my other fingers..
I squeeze it ( the lock release)gently with my thumb, it ( the blade with its finger notch) falls onto my index finger and I then move my index finger and it shakes gently closed..
or from that point I could use my thumb in standard SPYDERCO opening position to close it..allowing for immediate Spyderco opening if need be or Kin-Op opening...

never had it open in my pocket..of course I don't reach to index it either..
Nor do I engage the ramp..
the lock is the blade restraint..no ball detent..

too loose? tighten up the pivot screw tighter than you think it should be...its a Kin-Op opener..it opens under force...
no need to have it fall into place....ROFL..

Mine do NOT inertia open,,they're too tight..
no wrist flicks here...

Overall I'm glad you like the lock,...
its the only one designed to take the impact of Kinetic opening..Kin-Op develops lots of force...large impact from opening..."BAM"

thanks for taking the time to check it out and compare it and investigate it....

A kinetic opening. Using an object other than the knife hand to open the blade(i.e.-leveraging the blade against your wrist or an opponents wrist/arm/etc to cause the blade to open.

To show a different example, see how the Emerson wave device causes the blade to catch on the pants pocket and open on draw.

The Guntings blade "horn" lets you do this on a much broader spectrum of things, aside from your pants.

Now, that said, I've heard, and advise, never to use a larger object(i.e.-your own leg) to do a Kin-Op, as the blade may embed itself and this will prove my "point" not to do such things.

If I seem a little crazy, it's 'cuz I just may be, just waiting for the test results...lol.

In regards to the pant leg opening on the Gunting. It is not all bad, just keep in mind the intention of the kinetic opening. Novelty interests aside, it was designed to be opened on an opponent, not oneself. If you do an opening on the bad guy's leg & he gets cut, so f'n what? It's not a bad thing, just not something you want to do to yourself.
