Received this knife just the other day and I'm pretty impressed with it even though I'm not that much of a Benchmade fan. A friend of mine recommended it to me so I gave it a shot and I've been more than pleased with it.
Good:
Blade size is just about where I want it for a small EDC at 2.9 inches; not too big and not too small.
Weight is acceptable for EDC at 3.4 oz on my postal scale.
Overall workmanship is superb for the price point.
This is Benchmade's first assisted opening Axis lock and it works like a charm. Unlike the nitrous system, this uses a coil spring to keep constant tension on the blade throughout the opening process.
Although the clip holes do not extend into the liners, there are brass fittings inside the scales that make for a secure fit of the screws.
Not So Good:
Valox material is slippery and affords minimal grip on the handles. I would love this model in G10!
The thumb ramp is in desperate need of some sort of jimping as the thumb tends to ride up on the back of the blade even using a tight grip.
Knife is on the thick side but it does fill the hand nicely.
This particular knife was not as sharp from the factory as my other Benchmades have been and due to the very shallow edge grind it took me a while to put a decent edge on it. Now it is hair-popping sharp.
Overall I like this knife and it has worked it's way into my EDC rotation. The opening action is addictive and has the crisp, hard snap comparible to my Protech and Dalton autos. For around $70 to $80 street price it's a great bargain.
