I ordered a Sharpmaker and Byrd Cara Cara with G-10 handles and PE two weeks ago from www.bestdarnknives.com for a total of $81 USD. First impression on the Byd was that the packageing looked cheap, but what was inside the box impressed me. It came very sharp out of the box, but I wanted to try out my new Sharpmaker (which works perfectly) and I got it even sharper. Lock-up is very solid with NO blade play whatsoever, the lock bar didn't lay flush with the blade when open, but it was only a small difference, very smooth action, I love the G-10 handles, everyone was right when they told me that G-10 is the best handle material you will ever feel, it gives the knife a custom feel, the G-10 is nicely done with everything being flush and smooth. There was a little space between the metal liner and the lock bar, it was a burr that hadn't been removed yet, I took the knife apart and used my Sharpmaker rods to file it down to where it was flush with the lock bar and liner, problem solved. The blade is very thick and heavy, in fact the whole knife is heavy, but it makes it feel solid, which is something that is lacking in todays super light plastic knives. I wish it had options for tip-down carry like the frn version does, but I am glad I got the G-10 model. Overall: Very good knife with quality components and a very afforable price. I would pay twice what I paid for it if I had to. By the way, it only cost me around $25 USD for the Byrd. I will comment more on how the blade steel performs when I test it a little more. I am very happy with my knife, it was a great bargain.:D

I have had great results with my G-10 Cara Cara. The steel takes a really nice edge and holds it better than AUS 8, but not as good as my VG-10 folders for my EDC tasks. I finally resharpened mine after 2 1/2 weeks of EDC, as it finally started having a little trouble shaving smoothly. It only takes a few passes on the Sharpmaker and it is back to being really sharp again. I paid $22 for mine, it is just an incredible value. I'm going to order a few as gifts this year, and get myself another one so I can experiment on reprofiling mine as thin as possible to see how thin of an edge the steel can hold.
