hey folks.. i have been meaning to post a review and share some pics of this little gem, i got from Dan sooner, but life has been crazy as of late..

It's been cool watching Dan's progression, as Andy's apprentice. His work is improving more and more. He is producing some great designs, that should all be solid users.

Here we have Dogwood Dan's Sidekick.. first some specs.

- 3 1/2 in. blade.
- 4 in. handle.
- 1/8 thick.
- O1 steel.
- compressed Rosewood scales.
- hollow natural micarta pins.

i received this knife from Dan, on Christmas eve, eve. (It was a nice early Christmas present.) Since it's arrival i think that it has been used just about everyday. As soon as i opened the package i was immediately in love, this is indeed my style of knife. It's got a gentle drop point blade, starting from the mid point of spine and dropping about 1/3 the thickness of the blade, all giving it an agile feel.

I love the smooth flowing curves of the handle, it melts into my hands(size Med.) nice and solid. All of the handle scales are perfectly rounded, to prevent any hot spots while in use. The compressed Rosewood scales are just beautiful, they offer the warm feel and look of wood, with durability of a synthetic material. The hollow micarta scales are a classy touch too.

The Sidekick came with a wicked sharp convex saber grind. It was hair shaving sharp, right out of the box, and yes i shaved my arm.
This little beauty has been used for just about everything. It bites through wood with ease. I used it to make some stakes for a tarp that covers our wood pile. The sharp point also worked great for cutting/scoring leather in the shop.

As a foodie and someone who works in a kitchen everyday, one of the most important roles for a woods knife to me, is how it performs in the kitchen, and or handles most camp cooking oriented tasks.
The sidekick has seen just about daily use in the kitchen, it has helped prep vegtables, fruit and meat. so far it's performed flawlessly. it now sports a nice patina. It is a fine blend of a paring knife mixed an EDC style fixed blade.

The Sidekick came with a sheath that was designed by Dan, but made by Robert Fetner at Bandito leather. It is beautifully made and some lines, it compliments the curves of the knife well. The sheath has a little over a 2 in. wide belt loop. I have carried it many times and it rides very nice on the hip.

That's a sweet little knife. I really like the scales. Nice work Dan.

Man, I like your reviews Mike. When Dan made that particular knife I told him right away to send it to you. Its one of those neato little models. I like that size knife.

Sweet little knife. I have a similarly shaped knife and your comment about how it blends paring knife with EDC is spot on. Thanks for sharing!
