I recently acquired the Large MOD Dieter CQD knife. Its large and a handful, but the best money I have spent all last and this year so far. The knife is big for the 3 3/4 inch long blade. But in making it so they have given you a heck of a grip that is comfortable and secure anyway you hold it. Plenty of traction surfaces and hilts on the side of it to keep your fingers off the blade. Mine is the black semi serrated blade, and combined with black knife handle and clip is one nice looking knife.
I do not find this knife too large to carry in a pair of dark colored jeans. It does not disappear, but it does not print. When used the clip is very tight, and allows the knife to ride out of the pocket a bit. I do not carry it that way, a bit too much showing for me. Fine IWB though. It does have a cordura sheath that come with it that allows vertical or horizontal carry. A smaller version is also available.
Mine came scary sharp out of the box and the action was not stiff at all. The fit and finish is precise and perfect on my copy. The lock is a plunge lock, not a liner lock and if you will investigate its very strong fool proof design. You have to press a recessed button to fold it after opening it. This recessed button is not in a place where its going to get pressed by accident. Also right under your thumb in a saber grip, is a safety lock button that when pushed forward, will lock the knife open or closed. If that is pressed, no amount of pressing on the unlock button on the side can open it. There is no play in any direction in this blade. That combined with hilts molded into the handle slabs allow for some pretty strong thrusting. I cant get my hand to slip forward.
When the blade is retracted there is a also a small carbide glass breaker on the front of the knife. Its not sharp but is pointy. I throw a small folded handkerchief in the bottom of my pocket, before putting the knife in to avoid having it eventually chew my pocket up. I have not tried breaking glass with it, but it sure does scribe on glass easy. Also there is an auxiliary blade built into the handle that is made for cutting webbing, or seat belts without having to have the main blade open. This limits the possibility of cutting something you did not intend by accident. It seems to cut well. Its designed mostly for seat belts and cutting flex cuffs. Something commonly used by spec ops and leo's in taking prisoners and mass arrests. This works to cut them with no danger. I would not use it for that, but it works equally well on similar materials and seat belts and nylon web material. Nice to have, adds very little to the overall size.
Knits to pick, none. This knife is a large tactical use folder, but with a sub 4 inch blade. Its great in the hand. Its among the strongest out there. Its not going to unlock by accident or with side torque IMHO. The lock is unique in current production folders. While the blade is not a sharpened pry bar, it is certainly a fierce cutter up to anything a knife should be used for. Blade steel is 154 cm. If your after a hard use folder, check it out. Its the best knife for the money I have seen in a while. I am thinking about buying another just in case they stop making them, as well as the buying the smaller version for when I need something just as tough, but smaller. The other MOD knives in general are not for me, but this monster is outstanding and really seems to fly below most folks radar. Its really a lot of tough knife and looks great too. Glad I did not overlook it any longer.
