This will be my first review here on BladeForums. I will give my views on the MKT TFF-1 and its general daily uses.

First Impression: Wow, a tank of a knife. It came in a white box and within was a Pelican case containing the knife and certificate. While the action was stiff, it was still butter smooth. With a quick flick of the wrist and a little assistance on the thumb hole, the knife came to life. The blade material is 3/16" D2 finished with the NP3 corrosion resistant finish. The locking side is titanium with titanium clip and the opposite side being aluminum. My initial impressions: extremely impressed and pleased with the action and aesthetics of the knife. Very attractive.

If you have not had the opportunity to check out MKT's YouTube channel, do so. There he explains his philosophy on sharpening, choices in material, build, etc. The edge was razor sharp and stropped nicely to a mirror like finish. Initially it sliced through paper with ease and of course shaved the ol' arm hair without effort. However, after some use, its no where near as sharp. I used the knife for just about everything. From cutting open taped edges of my daughters Christmas gifts that need un-packaging, to standard use out in the field. Originally there was absolutely no side to side movement, however, now there is some slight play. Lockup remains solid as a rock. Your thumb won't even disengage the lockup. The action has become butter smooth and a very quick opening piece. The knife is also nicely balanced and ergonomically perfect in my opinion. It has quickly become my EDC option.

For cutting flesh this knife makes short work of whatever it is you are trying to skin. It cuts through bone without an issue as its a pretty beefy design. Overall, I am extremely happy with it and after taking it to one of the more demanding schools stateside I'll report back with more. Should see some mild prying and more flesh cutting soon. Greg Medford is a class act and his products are highly recommended.

Needs more detail.
What did you skin? and how many? What have you used for this work in the past and how did this knife compare?
How large a bone did you cut through?

Sorry about that. Skinning of deer and squirl, bone was squirl. It was a little cumbersome on squirl.

Thanks. Squirrel bone makes sense.
Good looking knife, though a bit more robust than anything I would normally carry.

Is there blade movement when locked in the open position, or only when closed?
If there is blade movement when in the open position, can you tighten the pivot pin and remove the play?

When open, it's solid. No movement. It was centered up in the closed position, but now it favors the non- locking side.

Cool. Thanks for the clarification.

Glad you are happy with it. Definitely an impressively large piece of steel

You know, the praetorian is one awesome knife. Got to handle one the other day. I like the Ti version. Probably the next Medford I will snag. You won't be disappointed. What setup did you go with?

fat daddy will not disappoint. I was lucky enough to be in arizona for a wedding and i had the opportunity to meet Greg Medford and check out his shop. He had just finished the prototype fat daddy and i was able to hold it freaking awesome knife

got my eye on fat daddy... how easy is it to sharpen the knife?
Not to bad. I will say this. I took it out to a survival school and paired it with my Crusader Forge TCFM02 fixed blade and for a majority of the tasks the Medford performed to task, but the squared up edges on the handle tend to dig into the hand when putting it to extended hard use. Also the blade now makes contact with the none locking side upon opening and closing. No big deal. I will still be buying another Medford when I have the money.

Did you reprofile the knife when you sharpened it? How did you do it, and how has it performed since?

Yes it was reprofiled to 20 degrees and has maintained that edge nicely with no touch ups to date. Thus far its performing to task without question. This is what it looks like now...
