good day to all
i hope u can help me here...
i gonna purchase a folding knife soon and im still stuck as to buy a CRKT classic KISS, samsons KISS or their Lightfoot Urban Shark. Also would u pple recommend these knives to be purchased? Which of these is more durable and more effective(versatile)? do they both work just as well? also should a tanto or spear point blade be chosen, whats the difference? Reason why im chosing these two knives is becoz of the price range, can i get any better lock knives that fall under this price range(50 and below)?

Hi

Welcome to the forums :)

Out of the three you listed, i'd take the Lightfoot urban shark - It's designed by a well noted folder maker (I know the kisses are too, you pack of smartasses), and the clincher - It has a real handle. Both the others have one sided, skeletal handles. It reduces the lock strength and makes the knife more uncomfortable to hold (imo).

However, there is the Benchmade griptillian, which has better steel (440c), and a far superior lock - the Axis. They're going at Bayou Lafourche for $57.99. I know it's over your budget slightly, but it's well worth the extra. Here's the link Benchmade Griptilian

And check here for a better perspective shot on the benchmade site (the price is a little high there though), and some advertising PR.

You can't go wrong with any spyderco you get, but i'll defer that to someone who knows the line better.

The other option is to check out the exchange forums and see if you see a bargain for sale - it happens...

Although I love the cool factor on the KISS knives I do not recommend them for serous use. They have a tendency to come unlocked in a tight grip.

I don't have any experience with the Urban Shark.

I would recommend that you look at Spyderco. They have a pretty decent selection of models in your price range.

For general purpose use I personally would recommend steering away from Chisel Ground Ecges and the American Style Tanto blade shape.

The Urban Shark, even the smaller one, is a serious knife, and comes from the box sharp and ready for work.I have a KISS, and it is fine for its purpose, but the L.U.S. is the one you want out of the two for general daily use.

I have the CRK&T Lightfoot Urban Shark. It is a great little folder. A good knife at a good price.

But, the Benchmade Griptilian is a better knife all around and it's in your stated price range too. I'd go for that one if possible. Lots of people here who have them have given a lot of positive feedback on the Griptilian.

The KISS is a pretty unique knife and worth it for the novelty alone. While I'm not too fond of the "naked" handles, they are ok knives for the money. I like my two Urban Sharks better - much friendlier handling characteristics. The CRKT M16 and Mirage are also worth a look at the price range you are considering. Also, take a look at the Camillus EDC - the 154CM version available at 1SKS is a great buy.

Of the CRKT's that you have mentioned, the LUS is definately the best. I like the KISS line and have all 3, but for substantial work, the Urban Shark rules. Mine came razor sharp and is one heck of a tough knife for the cash. However, you still might want to reconsider a Delica or another Spyderco. They really do produce some great knives that aren't too out of your budget.
Good luck and welcome,
Matt

Bang for the buck ... the LUS wins every time. I've got the large. Great knife. Also have a KISS, but given a second go at it, I'd go the LUS route first. GREAT value. :D

i REALLY like the Camillus EDC. even in the 440HC steel, this knife is SHARP and SUPER TOUGH. also has a very very smoth action and great fit and finish. can be found for about $35 if you look. by FAR, THE BEST bargain knife around (as in "holy crap, i cannot believe i got such a great knife for SO little money") or at any price!!
