Review of "Flat Grinding" how-to video by Allen Blade. Filmed by David Poff.
This is not "Knifemaking 101". This is a no frills, to the point, blade grinding video. Allen does a great job thoroughly explaining and demonstrating his techniques.
The video runs about an hour long. Theres no editing, voice-overs, or fancy effects, but none are needed here. Allen starts off by explaining the modifications and enhancements he uses on his Grizzly grinder (http://www.grizzly.com/).
Before the grinding begins, grind line and center line marking techniques are demonstrated. Belt selection is also covered.
A 7" Bowie style blade made from 1/4" stock is used as the model blade. Allen takes this profiled blade, and gradually produces the finished blade up to the heat treating. The bulk of this tape is in this section. Allen does a good showing the details of his methods. This video will be a great help to me as Im working on my first couple of blades.
Im looking forward to buying his "Hollow Grinding" video. I hope some other topics will be filmed soon. Id love to see Allens techniques on blade profiling, handle creation using different materials, and kydex shealthmaking.
Allens e-mail address is allenblade36@aol.com if you want to order. When I ordered they were only $10 +shipping.
