Review of Paul Chen Tiger Katana

What a beautiful sword! This is a High end Chen Folded steel katana, you can really see the hada.

The Tiger is 44.5” OAL with a 30.5” blade, 13.5” Tsuka.

The Blade has a deep Bo-Hi (Grove) in both sides.

The Blade has a high polish and is very well done and very flat, no waves which is nice and goes to the high quality of this sword.

The Saka is very high quality, highly polished, no need to have any work done or replace it.

I haven’t cut anything with it yet, my Bushido is my cutting sword for now. I can tell you that the Tiger is a higher grade Katana in every way than the Bushido.

I will let the Photos do the talking, photos are worth a 1000 words.

Thanks Steve.:D

There is something about a really nice Katana that just grabs me.:)

I know it's non-traditional, but I just bought a Rob Criswell katana in A-2 steel. Should get here Mon or Tues. Ever tried one? I don't know diddly about swords.

Received one of the HI Himalayan swords (36" overall length) last week. It looked pretty tough, so I took it outside and chopped up a downed pine tree. Not work for a sword, but I wanted to see how it held up. No damage to the convex edge, and surprisingly little vibration through the full tang handle. The handle is plenty big for a two-handed grip, as I have small hands. That's one monster blade.

Never tried a Criswell Katana, but have heard good things about them.:D

I have a 36" Tarwar too and it's really a brute.:)

Though I have found the Handle is too short for me being only 10".

I cut thick wara using both the Tiger (my regular cutter) and Criswell katana (friend's). Both are great cutters. I actually like to cut with the Criswell, since the blade is more suitable for cutting. The Tiger is also great though. Love mine.

Ankerson, you have very large hands? I don't have large hands but not really small either. Short fingers, but average width of palm. I find that 8" gives me a full (barely) two-handed grip. 10" would be luxurious.

Yes I have pretty big hands so 10" isn't really big enough for enough space between them for a proper grip.

I have a Criswell 28 inch katana and it is amazing! :D

It is a fairly traditional look, but modern materials. It makes a great combination!

BTW, how much is the Paul Chen?

great photos, those are the best personal pics I have seen yet of this katana..thanks

Hi Ankerson

I see this katana only has one handle peg, does this cause a problem !
