I want to share with you guys my review of the crafter hatchet by JXE JXO. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised by the functionality and capabilities of this hatchet. And for under 50$, this is definitely an awesome deal.

The handle looks...less than great, and I don't mean just the grain orientation. However, if in the market for a little head of that sort of shape it looks like a good deal. Would be interesting to see what one could do with it if it was spruced up a little and rehung.

Yea I agree that the handle is the weak point. If the handle breaks one day I will try a straighter handle

The curvature is good as far as I'm concerned, the problem is the small eye and the rest of the handle thicker making it a weak point.
Maybe the curvature is a bit exaggerated, but not bad I don't think.

So where is this hatchet made ?

I believe it is made in China but I can’t say for sure

Yeah it's less the curvature and more that it's very crudely finished with a VERY thick shoulder and it clearly needs a lot of thinning down and additional shaping. The form in profile looks okay to me, more or less.

Unfortunately, their poor choice of grain orientation limits how much shaping can be done. Definitely, pronounced shoulder hump should be gone. Some wood can be removed from the belly and back making curves less pronounced. We are used to American Hickory; this wood is probably less forgiving.

The wood they use is definitely not as sturdy as American Hickory
