These were offerred for sale last week, and I lucked into the last one.

First, general stuff. David has a reputation for making very sharp knives. He offered 4, with handle materials of Ipe, Purple Heart, and Bubinga. All of these are excellent, dense woods with beautiful grains, so I really didn't care which wood I got. I got Bubinga.

I payed via paypal, and the knife arrived on Thursday. The knives come with sheaths, which are simple and functional. I'll make another one when I get a chance, but this one fits and works.

The knife itself is a very nice size, just under 7.25" long. 3.75 of that is wood, but the blade has a deep choil about 1/4" long at the rear of the blade. In combination, this provides a very sturdy grip, and I don't fear that my hand will slip up onto the blade. I feel like I have good gross control, as well as subtle control for caving or fine work.

The knife is nicely balanced, and feels very good in my hand. The scales are minutely different, so that the knife is just off of symmetrical. This is not really a criticism, it is just enough difference to remind you you're dealing with a hand made piece.

There was a minor blemish on the spine just behind the tip, but I was not sure what it was. I wrote David a letter describing the bklemish, and he quickly responded telling me exactly what was up. He told me how to fix it, and also offerred to fix it himself. It was easy to fix, and is now undetectable.

Sharp. Yes. Very very sharp.

I feel like I got a great deal, and look forward to years of service from this knife. I think it would have been cheap at twice the price, a good deal at 3 times.

I don't think I need to put any disclaimers in, but I've not received or been offerred any consideration for writing this. Darn it.

Are these reviews welcome/helpful? what other info would you like for me to add? Anything to leave out?

Pictures please!

Great review! I've looked at his work for some time now but haven't gotten around to buying anything yet. Would you strongly reccomend one to me?

I have several of David's knives and they are TOUGH! His heat treat is dead on. I've pounded my little EDC he made into wood and it's tough as nails.

Plus, he's a great guy!

Absolutely and without reservation.

For the same price you'd pay for a mediocre production knife you'll get one made by hand by a person others say is a top-flight person. Even if he were a jerk, he oversaw the critical steps of production himself. There is no "inspected by number 7" slip, because there is no number 7; David Farmer puts his name, his pride, his livelihood on each and every knife he sells. You get the chance to own an object imbued with pride of craft,

I know that I'll buy another from David. I am -very- glad I listened to others here and bought one.

I am very sorry for the lack of pictures; I don't own a camera or a scanner. Maybe next month:)

I'd have to say that Farmer knives are top notch and a total steal for the price.

I got the purpleheart mouse and I love it. Sharp as hell as always.

Well David, you seem a like a real class act. From looking at your prices even my minimal highschool budget could easily afford a few in the future! Thanks for making such nice, affordable knives! :D
