Hello well i just got mu new coote grinder going this week, and i like it alot, i put a 1 1/2 hp. 1725 rpm. dayton motor on it and wired it for 220 v. I also put a "3" step pulley on it 1",2",3" diam. I ordered the 8" contact wheel as well as the 15/16" small wheel. The total for everything came out to about $580.00. When i got my belts from Supergrit, i threw one of the 36 gt. norton ceramics on there on the high speed pulley setting and started grinding one of my knife blanks i quickley ruinded that one. It turns extremely fast, too fast for me right now. but anyways its very smooth and quiet, the tracking is great and the tension ajusts fairly easy, the small wheel atatchment is the hardest thing to install on it but once installed it works great. the platen that came on it was flat and the right width but i did have to shim it to line it up straight with the belts. One thing that i noticed right away was the quaility of the parts on the machine, everything was machined nicely and there were no sharp edges or unfinished parts, it is very well made. anyways if anybody has anymore questions they can e-mail me. thanks

I agree with your assesment. Had mine for about 18 months now and no complaints. I do wish that I had a 10" wheel and the small wheel atachments. I'll just have to sell more knives!

I also have a coote grinder I will tell you
something the small wheel is a pain in the neck run it very long and it will melt on you.

What do you mean melt?? Mine is made of alluminum, with two cartrige bearings, and i ran it for about 5 min. straight just to see if it would heat up or anything, but it stayed cool. but ya it is a pain to put in place.

This is one of the many areas in which having a variable speed motor, or even a step-pulley speed change setup, can make an enormous difference in your grinding capabilities. By slowing the grinder input, the small wheel can turn at much lower RPMs, and not overheat.
