This is basically the quickest and dirtiest way to make a v-rod setup. It
has one round fine ceramic rod that is set at a 22 degree angle.
You can flip it from side to side in order to enable honing on both sides of
the blade. The base is simple plastic and there is a hand guard to prevent a
slip from allowing the blade to contact your hand. The whole thing once
collapsed is about half the size of the Sharpmaker.

The honing rod gives quite a fine finish. A few test runs on it and a
friends Sharpmaker gave very comparable results. The surface of the rod is
quite even, there are no bumps or holes to catch and marr an edge. The rod
loads up quite quickly, which you would expect given the low contact area,
but as will all ceramic hones cleans quite easily with an abrasive cleaned
and a scrub pad.

On the negative compared to the Sharpmaker :

-only has one grit to sharpen, thus you have no choice but to use a high
polished edge.

-has no flats so the edge quality is less optimal as burr formation can't
really be avoided

-the hone is large and thus fine serrations can't be sharpened

-doesn't have anywhere near the versatility

On the positive :

-it is dirt cheap, you can see these sold at flea markets and such for like
$5

-the rod is the same size as a common butchers steel and the large DMT rod
so both can be swapped in to make a much more versatile product
