Anyone had a chance to handle one of these yet? I am looking for a new neck knife with a beefier, more secure grip than the relatively "straight" handles you find on most. Seems like this might do the trick.

Any experiences or observations would be MUCH appreciated!

I just got one of these yestarday. It's the cord-wrapped handle version and the grip seems to be pretty good, though the "tail" definatley has to go. The belt clip attachment is a bit bulky, but I guess that won't matter if you're planning to carry it around your neck. I haven't got a chance to really use it yet so that's really all I can say.

Thanks for your input! I dont really love neck-knives but I am forced to carry that way, because of my style of dress. I am mostly concerned with how secure the grip is for drawing/cutting/thrusting/etc.? Thanks!

With the cord-wrapped handle, the grip is pretty secure. There's fairly deep finger grooves and a thumb ramp. My pinky finger only barley fits on the handle, but I don't think it will be a problem.

The cord-wrapped one also comes with a MercHarness (at least if you order from KnifeCenter), maybe that would prove a better carry option for you? I discovered that the sheath, sans belt clip, fits perfectly in the watch pocket of my jeans, so I'm going to try carrying there today:D Good luck.

I got one a few weeks ago, and I like the knife, but it just did not serve the purpose I bought it for. The sheath attachment for belt carry is fine for my duty belt (I'm a LEO), but it looked odd, and frankly, my KaBar TDI is perfect for what I need. For a regular belt, I didn't like the way it looked. Very "Urban Commando-ish."

A few days after I received the CRKT neck knife, I bought the La Griffe knife, and that knife was perfect for me. The CRKT neck knife is now on my Warbag at work.

The CRKT knife is beautiful and very functional for a work knife. For the price I paid for mine, I have no problem using it as a tool rather than a self defense knife. The knife is very solid, and grips well. It's not wickedly sharp like my Endura or La Griffe, so I don't know how functional it would be as a box cutter.

I tried carrying it as a neck knife for all of about 60 seconds, and it felt too big and heavy. Perhaps if you were used to "Bling" around your neck, it might not be so bad for you.

All in all, it's a good knife, tool, and would do the job well if your were fending off zombies. Are there better neck knifes for self defense...oh yeah. Save your $30.00 and buy an Emerson La Griffe neck knife, providing you can find one. They are very hard to find, much in demand and not really widely produced. I know of a place in California that stocks them. You will not be disappointed with the La Griffe..

You can always sharpen them yourself. My crkt knifes are never sharp when i get them, but half hour on the sharpmaker, and you'll be close to a spyderco.

G21..

Hi thanks for your post! Actually, I do own a couple La Griffes (bought a pair about 5 years ago) and I have carried one off and on over the last couple years. I guess personal tastes truly do vary because I don't care for mine. It's a good little knife, but too small and uncomfortable to my hand. I am looking for something a bit larger, with a more traditional grip. I don't really mind a little extra weight (I'll be wearing it more like a shoulder rig on my offside under a shirt, and not truly around my neck). Do you think it will serve well in this way?

Thanks!

Most definately! Please don't get me wrong, I love this CRKT knife, and that's why it stays with me in my patrol car, I just can't wear it around my neck. If you have a shoulder harness and can carry it concealed that way, I say GO FOR IT!

Wanna sell your La Griffes...:D

I got a Triumph NECK knife with the cord wrapped handle. Comes with a kydex sheath and a Mercharness. It feels good in the hand, but I agree about the fob. After carrying it for 2 days, that fob was starting to drive me crazy so I cut it off.

My sample wasn't very sharp out of the box, but a few passes on a ceramic stick gave it an edge with some bite. I must admit, the knife has a cool look about it, but it's not the kind of knife you want to use often or for everyday cutting. Aside from the annoying fob, I guess the only downside some people may find is the steel. 3Cr13 is the Chinese equivalent of 420j2 which many people on this forum turn their noses up at, but the knife obviously wasn't designed for everyday cutting. It certainly is no utility knife, therefore, I happen to think the choice of steel for this type of knife is adequate.

The sheath holds the knife securely and the clip can be positioned for horizontal or vertical carry on the belt. The Mercharness is a simple piece of paracord with a set of rubber keepers that allow you to carry the knife concealed under the arm. It works as advertised and in fact it's so simple in design that anyone can fashion their own "harness" at home. But hey, if you want to pay $10 bucks for an official one then knock yourself out. ;) Oh, by the way. If you plan to carry the knife concealed with the Mercharness, do so at your own risk. In my municipality it's illegal to carry a fixed blade knife concealed in such fashion, so just use common sense guys. Check your local laws.

Thanks everyone for the replies! The Triumph is cheap enough I think I'll pick one up and try it out..and if it doesn't quite fit the bill, well then no biggie. I may go for the regular version without the cord wrap - I can wrap the handle myself if I choose and I've rigged my own paracord or ball-chain "harness" for my other neck knives. I don't really need an "adjustable" string..once I get it the way I want it to hang it just stays that way. Oh and I have a CWP, so no legal worries!

Thanks again for all the good responses!

Pick up an AG Russell WoodsWalker in kydex: only about $20.00. It's light and can be sharpened up like a scalpel. It also doesn't scream TACTICAL. They're great knives. Bill
