I've just ordered my first custom (made by another forumite), and am looking to maybe order one of these knives from Dozier. I like small, potentially nasty things with a useful angle to them. This seems like it would be small enough to make for good utility use, but could still do some pretty wicked damage. So, it'd be either the K-9, or the K-6 (though I know a lot of people swear by the K-4). so which would be a good one to get? Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

Well, I have the straight Personal model, and I absolutely love this knife. It figures heavily into my EDC rotation. I haven't had to sharpen it yet! It has seen fairly light cutting duty... cardboard boxes, opening mail, etc. I do plan on trying her out this hunting season on upland birds and small game. I left a post over on Mr. Doziers forum asking if anybody has done similar, no replies as of yet. SO, if anybody here has used their SP as a field dresser, I'd appreciate their input on their experiences.
This knife is a well thought out model. It has well thought out and functional finger grooves. My model has desert ironwood handles, and I was absolutely impressed with the smooth fit and finish of the handle. If I had to do it over again, I might get a micarta handle and have it bead-blasted. I have the horizontal sheath that comes with it. It just disappears on the belt. It also fits nicely into a front pocket for a more discreet carry.
All in all, I have to say this is my most frequently carried and used knife. It will be a huge bonus if it performs well as a hunting knife. This knife is an absolute cutting machine. Nobody in their right mind could be disappointed with this knife.

FWIW, I have three Doziers: a General Utility, a Pro Guides Knife, and a slightly custom Companion (it's a little longer than stock, with a little longer handle).

Unless you need a hunting/skinning knife, the Companion/K-6 is the ideal general purpose knife. It has little belly, making it easy to use the tip and distal edge without dulling them. The blade is thin enough to cut deeply and precisely. I really like it, and I may get another.

The gravy is that you get to deal with some of the nicest people in the knife world.

Spyder, I have a Dozier K-9. It is a joy to own. I have average sized hands, and I was surprised at how well the knife fit my hand. Using the horizontal belt sheath, the knife will just disappear with a t-shirt pulled over it. It's there when you need it, and you can forget about it when you are not using it. Big D1

I have a straight personal (same knife as K9 but, but with the blade shape off the K4 straight hunter) I love it. It's my EDC and gets used fairly often for small chores. Cuts like a dream and still hasn't needed sharpening. I highly recomend a Dozier to anybody. Great knife at very reasonable prices.

Not a hunter so can't comment on using it for skinning.
