Review request: Outdoor Edge Magna (aluminum)

Mine is outstanding, one of the best large folders I've seen yet. Fit, finish and lockup on this one is excellent. The quality is every bit as good as domestic manufacturers IMHO.
The locking liner is 1/16" thick, plenty thick enough IMO. No flex or movement that I can discern. I don't think thickness makes as big a difference as the blade/liner fit. The blade is 4mm, or a little over 1/8" thick.

Rock solid folder. Outdoor Edge really did a good job on this one. The fit and finish is exceptional for a folder made in Taiwan. To me it's better than some high dollar American made production folders (I won't mention names). Also, if you dig serrations, you'll like the ones on the Magna. So far Kit Carson's serration pattern is the best for me. You won't regret buying the Magna.

My vote to Magna for the best knife in the $40 price class. The fit and liner-lock engagement on my Magna are equal to my Spyderco Military. If anyone can spine-whack or twist the Magna into accidental unlocking, they must have the strength of a gorilla. When this knife is locked, it's about as close to a fixed blade as you can get for a hard-use knife.

I should have a shipment arriving today. I can't wait to handle one. If they are as good as I hear they are I will probably keep one for myself.

Dennis - Outdoor Edge really captured the essense of the Model 4 with their MAgna. Out of the box, mine was very sharp and the lockup is rock solid. The cold forged aluminum handles add a bit of weight (more dense that regular die casting) to the knife but it has good balance in the hand. I think you will end up keeping one for yourself

Dexter, as usual, is right. I will be keeping one for myself. These really offer a lot of bang for the buck. Much nicer than offerings from Columbia River and Timberline. Seems to be a real workhorse of a knife.

I'm surprised they haven't gotten more attention.

The aluminum Magna is, in a word, brutal. The knife is big, heavy and very durable. It does anything you can possibly ask it to. It isn't too practical for EDC. The knife is more at home in the field. I got some real strange stares when I opened mine up in McDonalds to open a letter. I guess over 9 inches of folder is too much for the average person, not me of course.

I have had the lt. wt model for several months and it indeed is built like a tank and takes a very good edge. Very bity when sharpened on my bench stone. The only problem I have with it is that the liner lock. When just lightly tapped out towards the end of the blade the thing fails miserably. When tapped back towards the ricasso it stays engaged. Don't really carry it that much as the ergonomics aren't all that great. Hard to get out my pocket and hard to get the blade opened. The thumb ramps interfers with that. Other than that an alright knife. I carry it exclusively in my CatQuiver as it will be with me when bowhunting. Keep'em sharp

I gopt one when they came out. GREAT KNIFE!
Solid and beefy!
I put it in the trunk of my car. Never know where you could end up these days!
This knife would double as a survival knife in nessasary.

I can't believe it has taken me this long, but Dennis finally persuaded me to order a Magna, w/aluminum handles. (Also have the new Paragee coming too!)

Anthony Lombardo's review of both the Magna and the Impulse has stuck with me better than most things adhere to my faulty memory. I find his reviews to usually be fairly cautious, but in this one, he was clearly taken with both knives and strongly recommended both. Kim Breed, reviewing the Magna Ltwt for Blade was also obviously impressed with the quality of the knife.

I can say strongly that I intend to buy every collaboration Darrel Ralph and Kit Carson do. My M16 was my primary carry for about 18 mos. I'm still not convinced that any of my knives are any better. I love the Impulse I got used, and really like my EDC. Guess I'd have to also say that I am prepared to perceive Outdoor Edge very positively, after receiving my 2 new knives. I found it interesting that Knife Center clearly stated their preference for the Paragee over the EDC. So, the wait has begun!
