I am new to the forum and I have searched the spyderco section and the review section and I cannot find anyone with an opinion on the Civilian.

I am thinking of getting one and I would like to know some more about it.

Thanks in Advance.

Dingle1911,

I bought one at the first of the year to reward myself for something or other (can't remember what now, but probably didn't deserve it).

Anyway, I've carried it a number of times, but have never actually "used" it, because I want to preserve its pristine vorpal sharpness for the first dog that gets past the pepper spray (or two legged dog, whichever the case may be). Hope that day never comes. It provides me with comfort to have it with me, however, and that is important.

I think that this is one of those knives that you'll either hate or love. It's kind of an extreme, specialized piece of ordnance. If you think that any self-defense knife needs to have the ability to stab, then you probably won't cotton too well to the Civilian.

If slashing is at the very top of your list of things that you want a defensive knife to do, then I daresay that the Civilian should be on your short list of knives to look at.

This thing will slash like the raging fires of hell.

Yep

I've got a couple and think they're cool, but they are intended for folks with minimal training.

It's a weapon pure and simple and was designed to be used in a defensive role primarily to help in handgun retention situations.

Sold it, will have another one ! ! !

A fantastic knife, STOOPID sharp and it's a Spyderco

Nuff Said

Got one, like it it's a good collector knife, would probably be good for SD, but would be hard to stab with. If you really want a SD knife though get yourself a Chinook or a Benchmade AFCK while you still can, either of those would also do just fine for utility.

It looks like it would hurt far more than a regular knife...it's more like tearing your skin off than cutting...or so I imagine it....

I sold mine. Its was very well made and extremely sharp. It was just too large and specialized to EDC. The blade seemed too long also. I never did any drills, but I can see the hook getting hung up on a slash and upsetting your grip. I carry the Dodo instead. A very good utility blade and mini hawk shape. Suits my purposes better
