This is a big THANK YOU to Phil Wilson for his excellent work. I cleaned out the garage today and had to cut down boxes for recycling. The 760 started out shaving sharp and ended up slightly less shaving sharp.

While cutting the pocket clip worked loose. This seems to happen even with light EDC. I'm not sure what about the design causes this.

The handle is like any Lum design Tanto - ergonomic and comfortable. I think BM could cut a little less deeply on the jimping, but it's nothing to sell the knife over.

I know a lot of people got their 760s reground by Tom Krein but I really like the fatty blade and edge, especially with this edge retention.

Of Note: The black coating obviously baked off, but the resulting stain/patina is very corrosion resistant.

Here's an old review with the Krein regrinds

Can you elaborate on the reason to re-heat treat? Was Benchmades HT and RC not cutting it?

What did it start at and where did it end up?

I've looked at this model for quite some time and have been reluctant to pull the trigger - just curious.

I used it for garden work when first got it, and could feel numerous small chips in the blade when running it across my fingernail when I was done. Some were visible. I don't know where it started out, but it ended up at 63.

Noctis - I've tried Loctite blue but I think the holes for the clip were drilled slightly too big, as it still works lose, and the small torx doesn't get enough torque to crunch the screws down tight enough.

I opened the thread anticipating he gave it one of those killer thin cutting grinds he does, but it would be tough to do without ruining the vibe of that knife. A special knife I'd say - thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately BM's HT of the M4 blade was less than spectacularly. It deformed easy like VG-10 and is more on par with S30V in edge retention. Still good but not what I was used to for M4 steel. Don't know if the OP had the same issues but poor edge retention seemed to be common with this blade.

Wow - what a shame. I have looked at this model numerous times - mostly because it was M4. Glad now I didn't pick it up - hate to have to send a new knife out to heat treat!

It depends on what you want out of the knife. I'm a fan of the low maintenance, not sharpening often, steels.

This knife, with its ergos, would make a GREAT spring run in M390 (hint if anyone's reading...)
