Revisiting the Becker Folder

I know this is a sore subject but I just wanted to put it back out there for consideration. Maybe just to stir it up a bit.

I've seen a pic of the Becker folder prototype that KA-BAR claims would cost too much to make in the USA, and honestly, there aint that much to it...at least the materials aren't that remarkable these days.....but what about having it made in Taiwan? And it doesn't have to be Titanium. With USA materials like S30V? Spyderco does it, and those Taichung Taiwan folders are some of the best production mid range/high end folders on the market. Look at the Spyderco Southard, Techno, and the Sage series. Just outstanding!

Come on KA-BAR, gamble a little.

I believe the original Remora - the one that came free - was made in China. I'd guess that was basically a marketing test, a cheap way to gauge interest in the knife. My understanding is that it is now made in the US.

Thanks, thought this was the case. Still proves they've signed off on PRC in the past more just sign off on RP (Taiwan) lol

I'd be interested in a becker folder but would like it to be made in the USA. Would maybe buy if made in Taiwan just to say I have a becker folder or if it was such an outstanding knife that I just had to own one.

I've recently given away all my cheaper folders made in Taiwan, only have my Rat-1 still for now, I replaced them with ZT, Buck and Spyderco, all USA made.

A big part of the appeal of the BK7 I had was the hand filling, comfortable slabs. The 15 isn't slim in the grip either. Folders need to be slim and pocketable or else you end up with something that requires a belt sheath like the Buck 110 (which I am not knocking. I've got three of them).

I humbly suggest that if Ka-Bar/Becker decides to produce a folding knife, they make it a Peanut :p

I find the appeal of folders is that they actually go in your pocket, rather than hang off a belt. I've worn a tool belt for enough years that on my time off, I don't want shtuff hanging from my belt. I think a Tweener folder would be awesome. In fact, I'm going to see if I can make one myself, or at least prototype one. Tweener scales are less than 5" long, which translates into something that should be eminently pocketable. Maybe not with a clip....but still....

That isn't a bad design. I doesn't really say "Becker" though. Lose the hollow grind, the slight recurve and the index finger relief. Make it a lock-back and put an allen bolt at the pivot and it would be closer to what I'd imagine a Becker to look like.

that's the shit. seen 2-4 prototypes. basically OEM'ed by Hogue with KaBar's influence.

they are amazing. unfortunately, well, you know... $$$
