I picked up this Schrade LB 7 dirt cheap on eBay because a previous owner had used every surface on it to drive some type of 1/16" round tubular objects (including the wood scales) and must have use the blade to slice up concrete blocks. (dull doesn't cover it) It was ugly. It was so full of gunk that it was stiff opening and closing. It now has good snap on opening, and locks up tight with a tiny bit of movement. I can only get a weak snap on closing and haven't quite figured out why. I know that it is nothing special and has no collectability, but at least it is now a functional blade that could go back to work. I was pleased enough with the outcome to find another abused one that I now have on order for about five bucks more than I paid for this one.

Looks good but a "before" photo would have been nice so we could see the contrast. We like that kind of stuff ; )
Thank you, you are right, I should have, but I didn't. ;) In fact, I took it straight from my mailbox to the barn to start the facelift. I don't carry a phone with me anymore so pics would have taken a lot more steps.

You have to take my word for it that it was well and truly, uuggly. What is funny is that I have been looking at a lot of these on eBay and it is pretty common for the heavy brass bolsters to have been used as a hammer. I see it on the Buck 110s as well, but to a lesser extent.

Well done.

I found this blade about as difficult to get sharp as anything I have messed with in a long time. That is some hard SS and it gets brittle when the edge gets thin. I got it sharp enough to slice typing paper nicely, but it still won't cut a hair. I will have to keep at it until I find the right trick.
