Revolver; are you sacrificing fixed blade quality to get a saw?

If I got a revolver, it would be a fixed blade 90% of the time. Am I sacrificing fixed blade quality to get a saw? Like, how does the Revolver stack up against a Seal Pup and a Gerber/Fiskars folding saw? Better yet, how does the blade on the Revolver stack up against a Seal pup (or whatever would be the comparably sized SOG fixed blade) not even worrying about the saw?

No sacrificing at all I don't think. I would put any of the Revolvers up against the pups any day.

And just forget about the saw..........it's still every bit as good as a pup.

But remember you have a hidden survival saw that will cut like crazy.

The gerbers are in a complete different catagory.......with a Revolver you'll never know you have a saw until you want to cut a tree or limbs for a shelter or fire.

Have you seen any of the links showing some stuff being done with a Revolver knife ?

The Revolvers are great knives! I don’t own a Pup but I think that the Seal Revolver would stack up just fine. The Revolver’s saw is not as fast as the larger Fiskars saws, but it is faster than the SAK saws. Even if you don't use the Revolver's saw much, it is nice to know it's there when you need it.

Last year I loaned my SEAL Revolver to a friend so she could have a good knife on her Wilderness survival college course. The class spent 3 days up some mountain practicing primative skills they had learned. A requirement for the class was a good knife, so I had sent her up with my revolver. It was a big hit. Most everyone in the class used it a bunch. They really liked the 5" blade and 5" saw. Some of the guys bought them selves some after that trip. Their instuctor also that it was good.

Mind you, I probably wouldn't pry much with it, but for knife/saw related work it will do awesomely. The 1/8" blade is really sharp so it slices threw stuff really well. Slicing food is easy and it makes quick work of rope. Can't forget about the comfortable handle. :) So yeah, like others have said, the Revolver makes a good knife and on top of that, a good saw if you need it. Makes a great camp and brush knife.

I cannot really speak to the useage of the regular blade other than the occassional trimming and such, but the saw-I AM IMPRESSED!! I have used it to prune several fruit trees in my yard as well as cut some offending branches from a bush in my front yard that was intruding on my Plumeria. The Seal Revolver Saw cut better than my tree saw. Quicker and with less effort. I don't know how Robbie and SOG came up with the steel and the tooth angle of the saw, but whatever they did, it really WORKS! If I ever needed a survival tool in my kit, this would be the one. In fact, I am planning on purchasing another for just that reason.

WOW ! :D

Frank, Wildmanh, thanks for the great kudos, you should know about the SOG Revolvers for sure, you got some of the earlier ones if I remember correctly........has it already been 4 years ?

Thanks Richard, that's quite a compliment.

Good to hear from you. :)

Hey Robbie, the Revolver is still working good for me. I can't rememeber if I got mine in the fall of 2003 or spring 2004... Probably in the fall. Probably should pull it out of my day pack and use it more often. LOL!! Thanks again for designing it.

I have a Revolver Hunter. It is a great knife. I would not do any serious batonning with it, but other than that you should be very pleased. The saw is extremely aggressive and I just view it as a bonus feature. Would make a great backpacking knife or blade for hunting although I tend to prefer smaller blades for hunting chores.
